Q&A for Scentiments Why are your products different from what I can buy at the store? My products are made with natural ingredients and are not put through harsh chemical processes in their creation.  I don’t use any petroleum in any of my products. The only oil I use is sweet almond oil, which is light and refreshing, does not clog the pores like mineral oils can, and moisturizes without leaving the skin feeling greasy.  My main preservative is vitamin E, with the exception of the Germaben II which I use in the lotion.  I use pure beeswax, fresh oatmeal and brown sugar, and I consistently strive to bring you the very best of nature.  You can’t say that about most products on the market today. What is Germaben II?  I see it listed as an ingredient in your lotion. Germaben II is a necessary preservative that I add to the lotion to keep it fresh.  Its ingredients are propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea, Methylparaben, and Propylparaben.  In layperson’s terms, this is a substance that has been specifically created for cosmetic use to retard the growth of yeast, mold, and other fungi that grow in makeup.  This is the only artificial preservative I use, and even some of its components come from natural sources. Do you use any alcohol in your products? Alcohol is found in two of my products. Germaben II contains alcohol and is the preservative in the all of the lotion products. This addition is necessary to keep fungus from growing in the lotion, as mentioned above. I also use a small amount of rubbing alcohol in the body spritz and men’s spray cologne. No matter how filtered your water is, it will always grow fungus when left standing. The alcohol is there to keep your spritz fresh. No other products contain alcohol and I only use enough to retard bacterial growth. I am allergic to nuts. Can I use your products? If you are allergic to nuts, you will want to avoid the lotions, facial scrub, foot scrub and the lip balm. Almond oil is the base for these products. However, you can use the body spritz and the bath salts without any worries on that count, with the exception of the cherry almond scent. What is tocopherol? Tocopherol is the chemical name for vitamin E.  The FDA has requested that when vitamin E is used in a cosmetic for purposes of preservation, that it be listed as tocopherol. Why do you say that your lotion is better than other brands? First of all, it doesn’t feel sticky on the skin.  That’s a big plus.  Secondly, it absorbs well into the skin and nourishes it.  Third, after applying the lotion, rub your fingers together.  Notice how you don’t get little balled up bits of wax, like you might from other brands of lotion?  I do use emulsifying wax in the lotion but it doesn’t create a film on the surface of your skin. I’ve noticed that for some people, the lotion absorbed immediately but for others, it’s a little greasy at first and then sinks in. Why is that? Everyone’s skin is different. We are all dehydrated to a different extent, our skin absorbs differently, and we take to things differently. The lotion disappears on my skin almost as soon as I rub it on, but I notice when I sample it at boutiques, for some it takes a minute. It’s all dependent on your own skin type. But regardless of whether it goes in immediately, or takes a minute, it can be a good product for you. The proof is in the wearing. Every so often, I notice that my lotion is starting to separate. Why does it do that? Separation is a natural process that takes place when ingredients of different weights are placed in the same container.  Just shake the lotion bottle before using it – I like to whack it against my palm.
